We’re back! Well, sorta. Tom and Jake are back with What You Know, your newest spot for Minnesota Twins shenanigans.

Welcome, friends and foes, to What You Know: A Minnesota Twins blog.
We’re Tom Dierberger and Jake Schultz, a pair of friends who went from broadcasting college baseball games together to writing about our favorite team to help fight off the middle-aged existential dread. You may have seen us before at Rich People Conversations, where we covered Twins and Brewers and, for a brief, COVID-fueled stretch, Korean baseball.
This newsletter is a smattering of content from our blog, What You Know, named after Joe Mauer’s longtime walk-up song by T.I., which, for the record, still slaps. Every Monday, we’ll clutter your inbox with one newsletter with pieces about the latest transactions, concessions ratings, series analysis and downright tomfoolery. Subscribe to our newsletter to get your new favorite baseball blog right in your inbox every Monday.
If you have any suggestions or ideas, send them to us at whatyouknowtwins@gmail.com. You can also just send us a message about how handsome we are at that email or on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. We’re not on Tik Tok; we’re both around 30 years old and our lawyers cannot confirm whether we can legally be on that app or not.
Here’s a few recent articles and a smattering of the kind of pieces you can expect from us:
Five things to watch this spring training
Spring training is mostly irrelevant, but we watch anyway because we have an illness. There’s something for everyone to watch this spring, from the obvious with Byron Buxton once again patrolling center field or an old friend back in the fold as a non-roster invitee.
Ranking the Twins’ offseason moves
Our casual baseball friends have only asked us about two Twins-related things this offseason — what do we think of Joe Mauer (hint: heart and eggplant emoji) and how do we feel about the Jorge Polanco trade? We answer the second one, and rank the rest of the Twins’ offseason, including signing veteran first baseman Carlos Santana, agreeing to a new television deal and more. Let’s be real, though … the best move the Twins made this offseason was letting Emilio Pagan get far, far away.
An oral history of ‘Little Big League’
Back in 2020, Tom wrote the internet’s only oral history of the 1994 film “Little Big League,” which continues to reign supreme for Twins fans everywhere. This oral history features incredible stories of Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson, the Metrodome and a cast that belongs on FanGraphs, not IMDB.
The ultimate Backyard Baseball 2001 draft
If Pablo Sanchez makes your heart flutter and Stephanie Morgan strikes fear in you, you’re in the right place. Tom and Jake made up two-thirds of this unforgettable draft of Backyard Baseball 2001 players, which continues to be a point of conversation and contention for us. Check out the draft, but if nothing else, just watch the intro video to Backyard Baseball 2001. It’ll be the best 40 seconds you spend today.
